
The masters in "Islamic education" of Vienna university aims to train Islam teachers for secondary schools in Austria. It also covers topics and current issues relating to the religious and ethical education in research and teaching. A close cooperation with the relevant institutes of theological faculties of Vienna university is sought as well as with external research facilities and individuals delivering relevant performances in research and teaching.

International Workshop „Islamic Theology in Europe“
In the context of the project “Islamic Theological Faculty in Austria” an international workshop entitled “Islamic Theology in Europe” takes place on 21st January 2012 in Istanbul, Turkey.
An information exchange and a discussion about scientific aspects of an Islamic Theology in European context with Turkish theologians is the purpose of this workshop.

New opportunity: University of Innsbruck trains teachers for Islamic education

- Prof. Matthias Scharer, vice chancellor Margret Friedrich, Prof. Ednan Aslan and Ass.-Prof. Martina Kraml held a presentation about the new study opportunity at the University of Innsbruck.
Teachers for Islamic education will be trained in cooperation with the University of Vienna from this semester at University of Innsbruck. This opportunity existed until now only in Vienna.
Conference 2011
Faculty of Islamic Studies in Kosovo hosted from 21- 24 October 2011 an International Conference: “Training of Imams and Teachers for Islamic Education in Europe”. More than 50 experts participated at the conference from universities, other research units from Europe, the United States and Asia. As a consequence of the invitation of the Faculty of Islamic Studies Ukraine, the next conference “Islamic education in a pluralistic society” will take place from 5-7 October 2012 in Kiev/Ukraine.

New book from Prof.Dr.Ednan Aslan

This volume is a result of the conference “Islamic Textbooks and Curricula in South East Europe” held in Sarajevo, 21st to 25th October 2010. One of the aims of the conference was to critically assess the existing curricula and textbooks for Muslim education in Europe and to discuss the directions textbook and curricular development needs to take in the near term. This critical assessment and visioning took place in dialogue with the experiences of long-established churches and religious communities. The conference concluded that an emphasis on the European characteristics of Islam is essential in religious education.
